Meeting Changing Demands in a Meat Processing Facility

CHALLENGES
Mrs. Ressler’s, a growing beef and poultry processor in Philadelphia, PA, had a problem that most processors wish they were facing. As they continued to grow, they continually needed to ensure a reliable supply chain for their product packaging. A recent installation of a rollstock machine for their whole muscle turkey roasts added a new dimension to this process.
Previously, this product was packaged in a shrink bag that was supplied by Flavorseal. When Mrs. Ressler’s purchased the rollstock machine for this line, they sourced the roll stock film from the equipment supplier as well.
THE SOLUTION
As part of a regular packaging analysis review with Mrs. Ressler’s, Flavorseal identified the need for a flexible packaging rollstock film that could work on this production line and give the customer a full-service solution for their packaging needs. Although Flavorseal was not widely known for their rollstock line at the time, recent opportunities for expansion of that line made Flavorseal confident in accommodating this new need. After receiving permission, Flavorseal’s product development team worked together to identify Mrs. Ressler’s packaging requirements—and created an effective rollstock solution.
Once film samples were produced, Flavorseal sent a cross functional team, including technical consultants and R&D, to watch the testing and evaluate performance. After a few trials, the film that Flavorseal presented ran well. Continual testing of the film validated the initial success.
Because of the commitment and technical knowledge demonstrated by the Flavorseal team, Mrs. Ressler’s was confident in Flavorseal’s ability to provide this new film on a consistent basis. Purchasing film from Flavorseal not only gave Mrs. Ressler’s a superior packaging film, but the consolidation of suppliers resulted in overall cost savings as well.
